Denzel Elden Wijaya (13), a student of SMP Xaverius 1 Bandar Lampung, was chosen to represent Indonesia at The International Teenager Mathematics Olympiad (ITMO) in Lucknow, India, from 13-17 October.

“I was very surprised because the teacher who accompanied me came to class with a letter in an envelope. I think what I did wrong, how come I was given a letter. I opened it, well it turns out that I qualified for the Olympics in India. Really surprised,” said Denzel in a release received by portraiteducation.com, Friday (6/9).

After receiving this information, he will prepare himself by adding a portion of learning to the material that he feels is still lacking in mastery. He felt that in the previous training center (TC), there were several things that had to be improved so that all the results could be maximized.

“At that time, I was not quite right and was not thorough in the combinatorics section, so it was not optimal. Well, I emphasize this and study again. Don’t be in a hurry, you have to be more careful. I was a little hesitant yesterday. Hopefully the current preparations can bring the best results for Indonesia,” said Denzel.

Class IXC homeroom teacher Anna Trijaningsih said, Denzel is a child who has a high sense of social and discipline. In fact, he is willing to help in various ways.

“So it’s not wrong to be a role model for his friends and be appointed as class president. Although he is rarely at school because he often participates in championships outside the city,” said Anna.

TC ITMO Phase I was held in Bogor City, West Java, August 8-22 2019. This activity was attended by 15 participants. The details are 5 students who won gold medals and 10 students who won silver medals in the National Science Olympiad which was held in Yogyakarta, last June 30, including Denzel.

From TC ITMO I, eight students who will officially represent Indonesia will go to India from September 8 to October 12. With details of two delegations from Banten, two from East Java, one from West Java, one from Riau, one from Lampung, and one from DKI Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Denzel’s other achievements are Silver Medalst SIMOC 2017, 2nd place at UIN, Raden Intan 2017, 1st place at UIN Raden Intan 2018, 1st place at Unila Dynamics 2019, 2nd place at Unila Dynamics 2018, 1st place at OSX Mathematics 2019, First Gold Medalist WMI (World Mathematics Invitational) 2019, Gold Medalist HKIMO ( Hongkong International Mathematics Olympiad) 2018, 2nd National Gold Medal KMNR (Realistic Reasoning Mathematics Competition) 2019, Rank IV National PEMNAS (National Mathematics Week) 2018, Silver Medal OSN National Middle School 2019 .
